Ok, I'm embarrassed by being so technically inept but I have a new mp3 player and...

I can't make it load CDs on properly.

Its an extremely cheap one from tesco and the instruction book is limited, to say the least.

I've had it plugged into USB port on my laptop (which has windows XP) and CD in CDrom drive. Using My Computer menu, I can drag and drop the music into the new D drive space, and it registers as being there or as "Shortcut to track X". HOwever, it will not play via the computer (off the d drive) and the mp3 player says no files recorded.

Has anybody any suggestions? Am I failing to do something ridiculously obvious?

TIA

have you made mp3 files out of the cd tracks? sorry if that sounds patronising but i had to soert my mum out who was trying to copy and paste cd tracks.

Windows media player will "rip" them and make the cd into a file which means you could play the songs without the cd in.

cheap one robablythe way to go because my ipod has left me poor and stressed!

Yes it sounds as though you have not converted the CD tracks into MP3 files. You can't just drag & drop, you have to convert to MP3 for them to be able to play on the MP3 player Smile

Thank you. So...covert to mp3 files..great.

(Eerrr...how do I do this?!!!)

I had exactly the same problem with DS's new MP3 player (and I have worked in or around IT since 1984 Blush). I am not sitting at the home computer right now (MNing from work). There is an option when 'ripping' to change the destination file format, and .mp3 is one of the options.
