playdoh on a washable rug - help!

dd has just mushed some playdoh into her bedroom rug. it's a cotton one which can be put in the washing machine but will this just soften the playdoh up and not get rid of it? or is there a clever trick?

I would let the play doh go all hard and crusty then hopefully you can brush it off,pick it out!

For all emergencies i also tend to try baby wipes
