Dh is 40 next month and I would love to organise something really special and a surprise for him. We are planning a party in the summer (half way between our b'days) but I would like to mark his actual bday. Complicating factor is dd shares his bday so I cant bear to leave her and go away for w/e etc as she will be 5 and "knows" when her bday is IYSWIM. So if we go away for w/e would have to take 3kids, could wangle day off school/work so long w/e possible. Any fab ideas?
PS if you could think of a present too that would be great!!

Difficult to say without knowing where you are, but would a weekend in Edinburgh be a possibility? (lots of cheap flights depending on where you are). There's the Scottish Sea Bird Centre 30 minutes away, loads of nice restaurants and places to stay, lots of child-centred things to do. If it appeals, let me know and I'll suggest some stuff for your dd, too (she could come and play with mine if all else fails )

sorry-had to do bedtime things-kids not me!
They are 4,6,10.
Dh loves scilly isles-used to be manic "twitcher" and dash off there at 2am to see a rare bird-he is largely cured now but still raves about the boat trips there where they throw out dog food and offal to attract sea birds-yum! Do you think it might be a bit bleak weather wise late feb for the rest of use though?-will research that.
Tamum-thats def a possibility-thanks

Scillies could have nice weather in February - after all it's when the daffs are being harvested. See what it's like today:
www.scillywebcam.com/
We've been in April & had lovely weather. In Feb not so many boats will be running between the off-islands tho', and the Island & Hell Bay Hotels don't open till March. However the New Inn is open & looks like a great place to stay, and there are self-catering cottages available too

we wer in the vicarage as dad is retired vicar.

you can get tesco direct to deliver food in advance apparently

GRRR! stupid stupid me, forgot it was half term week. Every single nice hotel in UK is full-where exactly is that downturn is tourism! Have spent literally hours web surfing and zilch. Decided against scillies for access and weather. Need nice hotel with babysitting (not listening) service and fab restaurant for birthday night. Plus really child friendly thing to do during bday day (for DD)-Not asking too much eh!
Have tried all the luxury family hotels/gleneagles/crieff hydro/lygon arms any other ideas?
