Hi there does anyone have any hints or tips about emmigrating to either Australia or Canada.
We want to go in around three years time - we have the use of a solicitor in Canada but don't know if he is charging too much - do we need one?

I know a little bit about immigration in Canada - I'm from there. I don't think you need a solicitor, particularly if you are a likely candidate to get in, on points.

Would you like to put you in touch with my best friend who emigrated to Canada at the same time I emigrated here to the US???? Another friend is also almost through the process of emigrating to Australia. Cat me if you want me to pass on your details. They didn't use a solicitor but an emigration consultant who got her dh a job, cost a lot but got them their far quicker than waiting, but pros and cons for both.

Oh thanks that would be great. How do we get in touch do you want my email add'? We have enough points for Canada. But not sure about Australia some sites say we have others say not. We don't know that much about Canada but have relatives in Australia.

Hi lioncub. We are just in the process of getting our visa for Australia. I would say its a good idea to talk to an emigration consultant, as there are loads of different types of Visas. Shop around though, as fees vary tremendously. You can also use ones based in Australia. Did you have any idea where you wanted to live??

Lioncub. Email me at alison dot smits at btinternet dot com. And I'll pass on all to my friend in Canada. As she's just been there seven months it's a good starting point for Canada. More than willing to give an expat's point of view :o

We emigrated to Canada 4 years ago. Dh got a job out here and we came out on 2 year temp visas then applied for permanent resident status from there. We had alot of help from his work so not too sure if lawyers were needed but I don't think so, just alot of paperwork. Happy to answer any questions if I canSmile

dh and dd1 emigrated to Australia almost 2 yrs ago - dh came to Aus on a spousal visa though as I am an aussie and dd1 was entitled to Aussie citizenship through descent.
