I can sew, but have very little time and no sewing machine

normal princess / fairy / pirate suggestions from contents of wardrobe/dressing up box, or ballerina / showjumper (take a tiny pony)/ rugby player from kit she has / can borrow.

can you nip down to woolies / asda and by a ready made costume?....

a pretty dress with a wand and wings = fairy!

if she does ballet that = ballerina!

however if you dont want to

clown - oversized clothes and face paint

one of the cards from alice in wonderland - get one cardboard box - open up cut off flaps put hold in top
take into garden and paint white
then paint one black spade and an "A" at opposite corners.

Dont need a hat for a pirate - can get away with a headscarf.

dd1 (10) told me at 7.45am it was fancy dress at school THAT DAY. Cue massive row about thinking ahead, me running round like a headless chicken, sorting out stuff. DD looking at me at 8.30, all dressed up saying ' see, I knew you could do it' - AAAAARGH.
