Having experienced several changing room and pool debacles on family holidays, its now just me and DS at our first real swimming lessons. Please help me to be less flustered.

Take food for afters! I once forgot and dd1 went 'round the changing rooms begging food of other mums saying 'my mum doesn't feed me'. Very embarrasing.

A towelling dressing gown will be useful too. That way you can keep your ds warm and dry while you shower yourself.

Can't think of any other tips. I'm sure the teacher will give you all the swimming related ones.

Hope you enjoy it!

This is what I do:

Get out of pool and carry DD (she's 23 months you could make him walk) to shower. Hold her in shower and take off her costume. Back to clothes, give her a quick rub down, then on with dressing gown and out with banana. I then get myself dry and sorted out and then do her. Works well.

I never even thought about food.

A towelling poncho thing is good for the wee one - you can stick it over his head as soon as he comes out of teh water and doesn't fall off like a towel.
My mum used to take my ds and she also had a towelling thing she would put on before she got ds dressed - so by the time he was done she was also nearly dry!

I swima lot with my kids. (21 mths and 5)
What really helps is to put swimming cossies on at home under the clothes (all of us) and to make sure that what goes back on when you finish is as minimalist as poss.

i do the same as most on here already - get out of pool, quick shower, take dd's costume off and put her dressing gown on her and give her a banana or a biscuit and a carton of juice, she has that while i dry and get dressed. then once im dressed i can concentrate on drying dd and getting her dressed

have fun!
