Anybody got a swimming pool?

Have been looking for a house to buy for what feels like forever, and finally found one we love in our favourite village today but... it's got an indoor swimming pool. And the only access to the back garden is through the room with the pool.

Does anybody have a pool? How do you keep it safe from the kiddies? Or does anybody know how expensive it is to have one filled in? We have 2 DSs, 8 months and 2 1/2.

All advice welcomed, thanks!

ABO, why would you want to fill it in? Why not teach your children to swim in it?

My parents have one. It is great, the kids love it. The door into the pool is kept locked at all times. They do have access into the garden through another door but if they did not I would just suggest that until the children are confident swimmers that access to the garden is supervised only.

Also be aware that it can be more dangerous for them to fall in whilst it is empty than filled with water.

i thought you could get safety pool covers? obviously not an alternative to supervision but more of a backup until you get to a safer stage with children.

I know they'd love having it, but if we kept it, unless there's a way to put a 100% child-safe cover over it, we'd have to always supervise their access to the back garden, which I think is just too restricting for them and us. I wouldn't even be able to go off and answer the phone without worrying...

yuk, NO.

my sister has, but her kids are 9 and 11 and both champion swimmers.

they also have 3 acres and live in a very warm climate.

As it's indoor I'd be tempted to keep it and buy a cordless phone. Is there no way to make other access to the garden?

have a look at \link{http://www.dripool.co.uk\this}

is there no where else you can put the access. if not why not teach them to swim. I think it would be lovely to have a pool

my old family have a pool... u can get covers that are almost solid so if you fell in you wouldnt get wet or at least could NOT drown!

you could walk over it when one of these covers is on!

Oh, and it's 6ft deep...

It would be cheaper to get a builder to make another access door to the garden somehere else in the house.
