I have a so called best mate whom ive known for 17 years and obviously that counts for nothing.Since i had my dd2 she hasnt bothered with me or my dds even though she is Gm to dd1.She is pregnant with her 1st and funny but i thought friends liked to share things with each other .She hasnt phoned or asked how dd2 or i am(even though she knows im not well)and its left to me to text her to which she rarely replies .She has always been self obsessed but this takes the biscuit what should i do?

I wouldn't contact her if I were you. She sounds like a friend you could afford to lose.

Thanx hellgarda, i have been thinking along the same line myself but worry about throwing a long friendship away ,but if she treats me like that why bother.

I know it's not pleasant when it happens, but some friendships have a natural lifespan it's not worth trying to stretch. I was young and foolish 17 years ago and I'm one of the older people on this site - if I think back to my best friend as a teenager, I can see clearly why that friendship didn't last. (We were each trying to improve the other, which is an extremely bad basis for a friendship.)

If you look at some of the threads on friendship here (both among mothers and among girls), you will see that there are worse ways for friendships to go than just coming to a natural end. You have two children - do you need the company of someone who is self-obsessed and pregnant with her first? I think godparents fading out of children's lives fairly early on is quite common - mine did, anyway.
