find dictionary.com suffices for the basics, but I do have access to a hardcopy OED when it all gets complex.

No clue on a thesaurus - ae a couple of bootleg Roget's online, but I tend to ask colleagues questions on the lines of "What's that word, you know, like 'extrapolate' but vaguer..."

I want variations on extreme and distortion.

I'm trying to write an opening paragraph defining extreme distortion and my brain isn't working.

i always used to use dictionary.com whilst i was writing my dissertations last yr! found it was a lifesaver! my word thesaurus was so limited! good luck!
