You should be fine I think if you have had it already - am basing this on my best friend having to have a huge needle in the arse because she was exposed to it and hadn't had it as a child.

DD just had them. i had them as a child, now 33 weeks pregnant. GP told me (as did lots of websites) that there is no risk.

Did you have chicken pox when you were a child?

chick · 19/04/2006 10:56

ta!... i ahd read that on a few websites... but just needed confirming from real people iykwim!

you should be fine then! :)

Wembley · 19/04/2006 10:58

Then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Have a great lunch!

sorry to give conflicting info but my dr said that you should still avoid coming into contact with chickenpox when pregnant as there have been cases of women getting it twice.... you'd have to be pretty damn unlucky though wouldn't you??!

Wembley · 19/04/2006 11:06

If you had a mild case of chicken pox the first time around you can get it a second time (I did!) but this is quite unusual. If you can remember having it at as child then I think you will be ok.

Also the lastest research has shown that there has been no recorded transmission of CP after 3 days of the first spot scabbibg. It used to be you were considered contagious until all spots had scabbed. Hope this helps. It can all be so worrying when you are pregnant!

nowanearlyNicemum · 19/04/2006 11:41

it is worrying - you just don't quite know who to trust!

Bomper · 19/04/2006 12:29

I know it's a bit late to add this now, but I was pregnant with dd1 when ds had chicken pox, and pregnant with dd2 when dd1 had chicken pox, I had them in childhood and my babies suffered no ill effects!!

thank you all!... i was actually rather cheeky to friend and uninvited her for lunch and said to come round for a quick cup of tea as i have loads and loads of jobs to do and thought a morning visit would be better than an afternoon visit... she's just going a bit stir crazy staying in the house due to the pox!

anayway thanks fir all the advice!

good old mumsnet!
