Do you have strange spellings for normal names of your children?
I was wondering why people do this ...
At DS' school there is a Jaxon, a Kaytee and a Tonee ...

A member of our ante-natal class called her son Ethan. Lovely you may think, but she mentioned him one day and confused me as I thought she had changed it to Ifan (welsh ??)

My nephew is called T.J (not T.jay) it is short for Tony John, which are both his grandads names.

welshboris · 18/04/2006 09:40

First Ive heard of Ethan meaning Ifan??

Freckle · 18/04/2006 09:46

Tortoise, my DS2 is Zachary which I shorten to Zach (not that often as he doesn't like it being shortened). But everyone else shortens it to Zac, Zack, Zak, etc.

Just re-read my post and it makes no sense Blush. What I meant to get across was that she can't pronounce her own son's name and calls him Ifan...on second thoughts, it's not even relevant to this thread...errm, well I didn't get much sleep last night, that's my excuse...Blush

welshboris · 18/04/2006 09:47

why????/

poppiesinaline · 18/04/2006 10:53

We called DS1 a welsh version of a name. Only very close friends pronounce it correctly and the Welsh side of the family and hardly ANYONE spells it correctly!!!

DD we spelt awkwardly too!!! although the pronounciation is 'normal' and NOBODY spells it correctly!!!!

DS2 we used a normal name! LOL

The reason I used strange spellings was because I used to work in a hospital and it was the unusual names/spellings of names that you remembered. The hospital notes hardly ever got 'lost' because the name always stuck in your memory and people seemed to automatically know where the notes were or where they had last seen them!!

But by the time we got to DS2 we got so fed up with people never spelling DS1 and DDs names correctly we decided to make life simple for once!!! Grin

cece · 18/04/2006 11:25
