Fake tan before c-section - would it be silly and pointless?

having a caesarian on Friday. Just looked at my horrid splodgy pasty face in the mirror and remembered what a mare I looked like after my emergency section. Am wondering about whether it is worth fake tanning my face chest and arms before my section so I look vaguelly human for the visitors over the weekend or whether it would be pointless cos I'll puff up and look knackered anyway? What do you think?

No point doing my legs as have just got my evil anti-embollism stockings from the chemist which come all the way up my legs and do up at the tummy to wear for up to 6 weeks - gross!

yeah go for it! I was so so pale after my c-section. anything that makes you feel better is worth doing. (because you're worth it! Grin)

schneebly · 16/04/2006 10:23

If it makes you feel better then go for it!

colditz · 16/04/2006 10:25

It may seem silly to other people. But then, I have packed my makeup in my hospital bag, because last time I had a baby, I really wanted my make-up but had decided it was frivolous so hadn't packed it. It would have made me feel much more human to have it. You do whatever you want to do, bugger everyone else.

I would do it I had one before my transplant as I didn't want to look crappy in hospital after such a big op!Now that is vanity I would consider it an essential before a sectionWink

Blossomhill · 16/04/2006 10:57

Noddy - did you have a transplant? Sorry to sound dim but I didn't know!

Definately do it. And pack make up, and all the pampering products you have. My c-section babes both slept practically all day for teh first week or so, so I had lots of time sitting in hospital with nothing to do - I used it to give myslef face masks, pedicures (such a relief to be able to reach my toes), pluck eyebrows etc - it was teh last chance I had for a few months though!

hockeymum · 16/04/2006 16:58

ooh I'm glad you've not all said "fake tan what are you on!" I'm even considering taking my make up in now after your recommendations! All the pics of me last time were terrible but that is partly due to my crazy hair! I'm not allowed hairdryers or straighteners (my usual daily godsend) in to the hospital so I'll need a bit of a tan and a bit of slap to take the emphasis off my hair which I'll have to tie straight back while it's wet so it doesn't look all wiry and pube like!

Prufrock how on earth did you reach your toes after a section?!! Shock I couldnt reach them for ages without being in agony. Still not sure if it was pain from the wound or the 24 hours of labour that felt like sit ups! was it an elective? If so there is hope that it might hurt less this time without the stomach crunch contractions! I have noticed that my ugly support tights they have given me have removable toe bits so a pedicure might be in order!

I just did! Sort of sat up and bent my legs - tbh being bent was far easier than being straight. It was an eletive second time round yes. And I had a lovely big double bed so plenty of room to manoeuvre

cod · 16/04/2006 17:42

dont htink i have any real photos of me in bed
tthos hospital cubicle crutains

madmarchhare · 16/04/2006 17:46

I banned camera/video cameras from coming anywhere near me. I think even wth the fake tan, you'll think you look shite when you look at any photos later. Go for it though by all means (I have to admit I had my nails done, and had a panic when they came at me with acetone just before my emcs Shock)

teacups · 16/04/2006 20:29

I took a vat load of make up in when I had dd (was wearing it when I went to be induced but cried so much I looked like alice cooper after about an hour so DH had o scrape it off!) - made me feel much better after C/s for visitors. I also had the camera filled with black and white film. It's much more flattering with the hospital lights, even with make up on!

Definitely to fake tan etc. No one took my toe nail varnish off when I had c/s BTW so perhaps a pedicure would be worth it too.

Good luck and look forward to reading your announcement.
