please help. one of the kids spilt milk in the car, and we didnt notice and now it really stinks. it is enough to make me gag. we have tried, febreeze, shake and vac, and a solution of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish detergent to get rid of it, it just seems to be getting stronger.

i'm beginning to think we'll have to wear pegs on out noses now when we get in the car.

I think you'll need to steam clean it misdee. Take it to somewhere that does valeting and ask them to just steam out the bit that has had the milk spilt

Oh dear! This happened to us very recently with a carton of milk spilled in the boot. It was horribly smelly and sponging and Fabreze didn't help. Eventually, I stripped the carpet out of the boot and washed it thoroughly in the bath then dried it over a radiator for 2-3 days. The milk had worked its way down into the spare wheel compartment so everything had to be washed with a good liquid cleaner including the spare wheel!

No easy way to do the job I'm afraid, just lots of hot water and elbow grease. Good luck!

When it happened to us , we had to take the carpets out and power wash them. It's horrible isn't it?

Misdee - our local valeting company has a special "milk clean" service on the "menu" - costs about £15 I think.

I thought of something else which may be worth a try. I have done this with reasonable success on house carpets to get rid of both milk and cat pee.

Douse the area of the slightly damp carpet with cheap talcum powder and rub it in. Leave it to dry for a couple of days then vacuum it off. Do not wet the talcum powder or you will be left with a yucky mess.
