Internet Explorer question

For some reason, I've lost the top of my IE window. It's the bit with all the menues and tool bar on it as well as the bit for typing in web addresses. As you may imagine, this hampers my internet activities a little.

This may be connected to the Windows updates I installed as it only seems to have gone wrong since then. Any suggestions how I can get it back to normal? I can't find out what version of IE it is at the moment as I used to look under one of the menu options which isn't there anymore

Have you tried looking in View -> Toolbars and making sure that they're ticked, or am I spectacularly misunderstanding? (entirely possible ).

SoupDragon · 10/01/2004 17:48

I don't even have the bit that says "view"

Oo, I know this bit! Use Alt + V to get the view menu.
Good luck.

Just pings at me through the speakers. I suspect this is one of those cases where reinstalling IE is the only cure.

Now, all I have to do is navigate my way to an IE download when I can't type any web addresses in

Could we send you a download through an email?

SoupDragon · 10/01/2004 18:13

As a lst ditch attempt before I try to instal it again, I've posted my question on the geeky newsgroups at microsoft.com. They've helped in the past.

I think i can find IE on this bit of the site too but I'll let you know!

Right... that's got half of it back! At least I now have something to work with

Thanks.

I think I'm going to have to reinstall this.

Does anyone know if I can save my favourites?

have you tried turning computer off and on again?

tamum · 10/01/2004 19:48

I'm sure you can save them easily, you just reimport them (can't remember how offhand, but do remember it was easy). If you're at all worried, you can go to Backflip and save all your favorites so you can access them from any computer. Good luck!

agy · 10/01/2004 19:48

Why don't you download Mozilla Firebird - better than explorer. It would automatically import your favourites.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2004 20:08

I've resorted to uninstalling IE6 and reverting to IE5 which seems to have done the trick (and kept my favourites). Might try reinstalling IE6 at some point.

Have heard both good and bad about Mozilla. IE has generally served me well enough. Except for now, obviously!!

So long as you're sorted. Mozilla and mozilla firebird are different but they all seem much of a muchness to me.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2004 21:32

I can't be ar$ed to mess about with it any more It works now and (most importantly) it lets me look at Mumsnet! If it keeps doing weird things, I'll have to think about a different browser though.
