"New Network Detected" on my PC - help please!

Just logged on and ZoneAlarm Pro has flashed up a warning message saying a new connection has been found between my computer and the Internet or another computer.

It wants me to "select a security level for this network" and gives 2 options -

Keep in Internet Zone: for use at public or questionable access points (hotel, airport, coffee shop etc.) Allows internet access, blocks others from accessing your computer

Allow into Trusted Zone: for trusted, secure locations only (home, office etc.) Use only if you need to share files or printers with others on this network

Then there's an option to "name this network"

We have a network - 2 PCs and a laptop - so what's this about? I can't get rid of the box without choosing an option but I can push it to the corner of the screen. Heeeeelp!

I don't think so, I'm on the PC - afaik, only the laptop is connected 'wirelessly' and that's not switched on atm.

hum - haven't changed any settings, added another network card etc....?

Open up your My network places - how many connections are there?

I've just rung dh at work and he said it could be something like NTL changing its settings (or it could be someone trying to hack into our computer!) He hasn't added anything and only this PC is switched on.

Where's "my network" blackduck?

We have had lots of attempted attacks on our pc recently, may be worth running some sort of spyware/anti virus prog just to be sure

I'm just going to leave it and dh can look at it when he comes home (how pathetically non-technical does that sound?). I can still get on MN...

XP machine - my network places are ont he desktop, or Start/settings/network connections......
You dh might be right aboout NTL changing settings, but If I was you I'd go for 1. and see if you can still connect to the internet......(you can always change it to 2. later...) - and I'd run spyware ....

if you're wireless moo then it can sometimes detect other wireless networks e.g. it could be a neighbour that also has a wireless computer.
