DD used to go to a multi-cultural secondary school.
She started sixth form at a CoE school that is probably 95% white British.

Tonight at parents evening a family arrived at the table next to us. They were Asian and the son and mum were wearing traditional Asian clothes. The teacher looked up and said to them. "Ooo, nice outfits. If I had known I would have worn my turban and head dress." Shock

I wish I had said something there and then but didn't Blush.

What should I do about it? Something? Nothing? WWYD?

What did they say? Did she say it in a mocking tone? Maybe she actually owns a turban and somehow thougt she was being nice? (stupidly?).

He def said it in a mocking tone, as though they'd turned up in fancy dress!
We were getting up to leave so didn't hear if they said anything back.
Dd says he is a nice man BUT!

I think I would say something then. Probably to the head rather than to him though.

I will look for his email address

I'd mention it to head of year/head.

It's an odd thing to say. If it really was in a mocking tone then it was such blatent prejudice that I'd be left speechless, too.
Which is why I wonder if it was meant in a jokey way but came out wrong. Hope so, anyway.

I used to gab at neighbours saying how beautiful their Saris were. I genuinely meant it (lovely fabric). But I think they were embarrassed, injunction to be modest and all.
