I think I drove my stepdads car once, apart from that none at all - I had more lessons than you though. I think it worked out at about 42 hours of lessons Blush I was fine in the lessons but got nervous and messed the tests up!

motherinferior · 09/04/2006 13:31

About 16 years after my first ever driving lesson (and several failed tests) I attempted some driving practice with DP, who threw a most uncharacteristic hissy-fit and claimed that this was the most traumatic experience he'd ever been through Grin

Don't go by me, though, please, or you'll give up totally. I did pass in the end.

SenoraPostrophe · 09/04/2006 13:34

none. don't know how many lessons I had - 35-40 i think. you might be ready sooner than you think!

charliecat · 09/04/2006 13:34

serenity, not blush for me...if i thought I could pass a test in another 12 lessons I would be :)
LOL MIGrin So is he a good passenger now?

Hardly any after I drove my mother's new car into a brick wall on Mother's Day! I had hour long lessons with an instructor nearly every week for about 8 months and then passed first time (this was when I was 17). But I was a confident driver from the start and didn't really need any more practice than I got with my instructor (Just as well after what I did to my mother's car!)

roosmum · 09/04/2006 13:37

quite a bit - drove everywhere with dh once insured & confident enough, it def. helps to do that ime. did the test in my own car too, although took 3 goes to pass - it's so helpful to be able to drive, you WILL do it Smile
good luck!

motherinferior · 09/04/2006 13:40

I have no idea - if he's in the car, he drives. I can't be arsed with all the huffing and indrawn breath and muttered 'oh no!' and general carry-on, frankly.

zippitippitoes · 09/04/2006 13:42

I had 22 lessons and no practice and passed first time [boasting emoticon]Grin..I learnt to drive in Edinburgh which was quite scary

charliecat · 09/04/2006 13:46

I wish id learnt to drive in Scotland where 3 cars at traffic lights, at the time, was a traffic jam, now in gridlock Kent where queues of 40-50 cars at the traffic lights is the norm.

It's hard MI, I'd be just as bad as your Dp tbh. I've been driving for 15 years now and I hate being a passenger (luckily Dh has no desire to learn!) I can just about handle being driven by my Mum, stepDad and my bf. With anyone else I tend to have my foot on my imaginary brake all the time, and things just seem closer from the passenger seat. Actually bf drives like a loon, so tend to put my foot through her floor quite often Grin

desperateSCOUSEstrife · 09/04/2006 13:47

dh wouldnt do it

petunia · 09/04/2006 14:39

I think from memory, it was 17-20 hour long lessons before 1st test, and then had 4 or 5 more before the 2nd one. No other practice (my Dad's car insurance for his company car wouldn't allow it).

GarfieldsGirl · 09/04/2006 14:48

I drove all the time with dp unless we had to go on motorway, he just let me get on with it. It was a 6mth wait for a test here so I did most of the driving in that time (including journeys to & from N Wales from Portsmouth), and about 1hr proper lesson a wk.

cece · 09/04/2006 15:04

Had about 20 lessons but no other driving .My instructor made the unusual request to ask me not to practice in other cars as it was making me worse Blush. Apparently he had never had to tell anyone else this!

elastamum · 09/04/2006 15:09

My dad taught me to drive himslf as lessons were so expensive. I had to drive everyone everywhere for about 2 months and passed my test in our very old car first time as did my brothers. The driving instructor complimented my dad on his teaching Smile

BROWNY · 09/04/2006 19:17

DSW, wish I'd thought of that name!! All the original names I put in to register were already taken, so I ended up with this! How many children have you got? I've four, dd1, 10, dd2 8, ds1 6 and ds2 23 months old Smile

charliecat · 10/04/2006 22:07

Well I drove back from B and Q today quite confident.
I seem to take hours to get anywhere, like 30 mins compared to dps 5...:( lol

OP posts:
chjlly · 10/04/2006 22:20

I never got any extra practice my parents didn't trust me for some reason!!!
I don't think it was a bad thing thought as my db and dsis both failed at least once with extra practice and my other bro and I had none and we both passed first time

GDG · 10/04/2006 22:20

None, just lessons. I was 17 and I think I had 23 lessons.
