I have just opened my front door to accept a delivery to see the new conifers I planted earlier this week have all been pulled up (in braod daylight out of my front garden. Going upstairs and looking out my dd's window into next doors garden they have 6 new conifers ... I have phoned the police and they are on their way over.

Noooo, I can't believe anyone would be that outrageous!

Surely its got to be some outrageous conincidence....no-one would be that obvious in ripping someone off, would they??

Tut...some peopleAngry

bran · 08/04/2006 16:40

I suppose it's possible (like BettySpagetti's story) that someone nicked your conifers and then knocked on doors to sell them and your neighbours bought them without knowing they had been stole from you. The 2 missing one have probably been sold to someone else nearby in that case.

bran · 08/04/2006 16:41

'stolen' not 'stole'

CHICagoMUM · 08/04/2006 16:42

In the 3 years that they have lived there I have never seen them plant a single plant. On the day our conifers go issing they plant exactly the same plants in their garden. Could you really get that much of a coincidence?

And we had our beloved trampoline stolen from our garden on Monday night!!!Angry

Rhubarb · 08/04/2006 16:45

Deffo call the police, if you do move, this might put them off doing something similar to your new neighbours if they think they will be reported for it. They have only done it because they think they will get away with it, don't let them!

CHICagoMUM · 08/04/2006 16:46

Apparently (according to another one of our neighbours who I spoke to today) these people go down the high street with a pushchair and take the bags of stuff left outside charity shops sort it out and sell it at car boot sales.

HBDU was it a large trampoline?? Someone stole our gas BBQ 2 years ago..

Rhubarb · 08/04/2006 16:47

'bout time someone shopped them Chicagomum! They must be laughing that they can do what they want and no-one will say anything!

I never cease to be amazed by the brass neck of some people. This reminds me of an incident that happened at the pre-school where I work. One of the childrens trikes went missing at home time and the parents searched the local roads and found another child with mother ridng it home. On being challenged the mother said her ds had wanted it so what could she do and refused to remove the child. The other child's mum picked the child up off the trike and was told by the robbing mother that she was going to call the police for touching her child!! Both children still attend the pre-school.

Update -

DH came home from footy the neighbour was in her bedroom looking out of the window. DH pointed at the misiing plants. She shoke her head and dissappeared. We wnet upstairs and surprise surprise the plants were no longer visible in her garden. We rang the door and questioned her. Her english is non existent she shoke her head again. I went home and came back with the camera (BIG THANKS FOR THAT SUGGESTION JOOLS TOO) and showed her the photos I had taken of the plants she then went and got them. She is trying to make out that it was the kids (not 100% convinced but we have decided to leave it). I have phoned the police to cancel them (they hadn't turned up yet) but at least it is on record if any thing else happens. I just hope they don't all die.

Well good for you - lets them know you know iykwim.

bran · 08/04/2006 17:24

Do you have contact details for their landlord? You could ask the landlord not to renew their tenancy.

Freckle · 08/04/2006 17:25

Golly! What a flaming cheek - and to try and brass it out like that.

Can you mark the plants in some way so they can't try that trick again??

AllieBongo · 08/04/2006 17:26

thieving bastards! i can't believe the cheek of them. let us know what happens. i should have pmt next week so me and my hormones will pop round and sort em if you like Grin

Shock cm!

But now they know you have a digital camera too....... Shock

My parents will be interested to know this since they live just around the corner.

Good on you and your DH.

Pinotmum · 08/04/2006 17:34

I just mentioned this to my mum - a keen gardener in the style of margot Ledbetter - as she has conifers at the front. She told me her "new" neighbours from Albania had taken her old settee that had been left out for council collection. When they council lorry arrived it was gone. Anyway the next day Mr Albania knocked and asked if she had any matching chairs. She politely apologised that she didn't. Then Mrs Albania knocked and asked if she had a washing machine to spare. I suppose it was good of her to ask. My mum is feeling terribly sorry for them now and thinks I'm hard nosed for pmsl.

catsmother · 08/04/2006 17:35

Tie a ribbon round each trunk .... but half way up, under the foilage so it can't be seen by anyone moving them.

JoolsToo · 08/04/2006 17:35

well done chicagomum - what a bloody nerve I don't believe it! (in true Victor style).

I'll bet you anything she understands (and speaks) English all too well!!!

JoolsToo · 08/04/2006 17:40

Pinotmum - Shock at have you got a spare washing machine I can have (and Grin too!)

CHICagoMUM · 08/04/2006 17:41

Have replanted 7 (the eighth one is missing, but I only saw 7 in their garden, haven't got the stamina to deal with it again). What made me even more mad is that she started yelling at the kids and smaking them around the head Shock . I shouted at her theat even if it was them that did it that was not necessary. I know the kids are a handful, but I don't want to be the reason they get a beating.

OP posts:
misdee · 08/04/2006 17:42

omg!! glad you;ve got them back. poor kids.

JoolsToo · 08/04/2006 17:43

you should have given her the spade!

she sounds like a right witch (Shock Jools!)

LadyTophamHatt · 08/04/2006 18:57
