Just opened the door to go out and I found a dead pigeon underneath my car (not under the wheels you understand). Hmmmm... what would you do about it?

I expect that my cat left it there, sorry Grin

Dunno, but one of the Q&As on BBC site today was about someone who'd handled a dead pigeon. Apparently pigeons are not considered carriers at this time, but normal hygiene standards apply (i.e. you might not get bird flu, but they're still vermin with wings and should be treated as such... horrid things, pigeons imo)

I would air-punch and sing a bar or two of Guns and Roses Sweet Child of Mine

I loathe pigeons, one less of those flying rats the better

but then I 'm a bitch

GeorginaA · 07/04/2006 15:39

suzywong - right there with you. I was gutted they weren't going to use bird flu as an excuse for a pigeon cull.

I'm making it my mission to cough and sneeze on any pigeon I see as a sort of reverse bird flu experiment.

suzywong · 07/04/2006 15:42

Splendid plan Georgina.

We don't have many of them over here, but our magpies are positively villainous

Can you not get dh to handle it Jampots?

Enid · 07/04/2006 15:44

lol suzy

Enid · 07/04/2006 15:44

pigeons = sky rats

suzywong · 07/04/2006 15:45

don't get me started on squirrels while we are talking of rats by other names

where's Jampots gone?

GeorginaA · 07/04/2006 15:47

Squirrels - definitely evil. Bastards won't leave you alone and they steal the bird food.

While we're annoyed with things, can I add starlings into the mix? Them and the pigeons are taking all my bird feeder seed and leaving none for the little finches.

suzywong · 07/04/2006 15:48

horrid horrid horrid things!

GeorginaA · 07/04/2006 15:49

I think we've scared jampots away... sorry jampots! Grin

iota · 07/04/2006 15:50

jampots is obviously outside poking about under the car with a garden rake ( unless she happens to have a barge pole about her person)

jampots · 07/04/2006 16:24

sorry gals - had to go out to the bank (telephoned dh whilst I was out and he wont move the fucking beast) - looks like its down to me.

there's a dead woodpigeon a few yards up from my house. I think it's been hit by a car.

foxinsocks · 07/04/2006 16:28

I wonder if bird flu keeps on spreading they'll insist cats get locked inside (hopeful emoticon). Oh how I would love to have no cat poo in my garden for a few weeks.

catsmother · 07/04/2006 17:25

I was reading the paper and apparently re: dead birds, you are supposed to contact DEFRA if the following applies:

1 or more dead swans, geese or ducks.

3 or more birds of the same species dead in the same spot.

5 or more birds of different species dead in the same spot.

!!!

ThePrisoner · 07/04/2006 19:13

We counted 7 dead and rather squashed pheasants on or at the side of one particular road today. I don't think anyone at DEFRA would be interested in that (but they were very close together!) We also spotted one squashed fox, a dead badger and a couple of flat rabbits. Do you think the bird flu has spread already??

robinpud · 07/04/2006 19:25

My postman has to dispose of my dead birds if dh is at work. They commit hari kari on my patio windows. I think ds now aged 5 would be bribed to put one in bin now as he is not squeamish. was most fascinated by mangled mouse which died in his playhouse. good luck

flack · 07/04/2006 19:30

dispose of it and wash my hands thoroughly.

lou33 · 07/04/2006 19:31

i'd do what suzy does, then probably run over it for good measure
