Getting a visa to live in Britain,

Just curious really but if you get pregnant while staying in britain, then go home as your visa runs out, is it easy to return? The person involved is from the czech republic and i have just bumped into her boyfriend. It just doesn't seem to has crossed his mind that it might be difficult for her to return, he's more concerned with looking for a house.
Surely she has to prove the father is English, or everyone would be saying they were pregnant. Does anyone know how it works, i'd like to just prepare the boy as he is slightly dosey

is she getting married to him? then she may be able to stay, i think. Our BIL's sister (50) went to turkey and came back with a 25 yr old boyfriend, he has been here for about 2 years, on a visa apparently - they are NOT married apparently.

There not getting married , but i think he would if it meant she could come back.
Is he good looking fio!

When I got pregnant, the Home Office essentially told us to get married. I have residency, but not citizenship, so the sluglet would have had my passport, with residency in the UK. Now she has dual nationality.

pretty sure from something they had on one of those fly on the wall documentaries about the immigration at the airport, that she would need to leave the country and then apply for a visa to come in and get married, and if she got married before he visa ran out, she might still need to leave and come back on a spouses visa. The most important thing seemed to be that she is honest, don't try and come in on a work visa if you want to get married etc, and also, that a spouse's visa is quite straight forward, but you MUST do it all in accordance with the rules.

The homeoffice have loads of booklets etc, do they have a website?

Yes it is, she has left the country, but announced she was pregnant three days befor leaving. I'm just wondering if her plan will work. It seems such a shame because this man is lovely and i do want him to see his child.

Two months?! And her visa was running out? Would I get stoned if I said it all seems very convenient? Sorry if it is genuine.

fio2 · 08/01/2004 16:09

is she REALLY pregnant? she is a complusive liar too.....

Meid · 08/01/2004 16:56

I bet the baby will be about a month late. She's probably bonking like mad as we speak!

My DH isn't English and when I got pregnant we weren't married. A week before our wedding I rung the Home Office to discuss how to go about him applying for residency once we're married. I said "you'll see we are a genuine couple, we're getting married next week and have a baby on the way". The lady laughed and said sarcastically "plenty of people have babies and get married and aren't genuine". Gulp. Fancy saying that to a 7 month pregnant lady a week before her wedding!

Incidentally, I still believe my marriage is genuine.

fio2, lol!

Festivefly · 08/01/2004 17:06

No it is very convenient, she said to me oh no what am i going to do i'm pregnant, with a big smile on her face. I've never known anybody so bloody smiley and not in shock when they have an "accident" after two months.
So will she get back here i just can't work it out, i really want this man to see his baby! I do believe she is pregnant though as they were at it like rabbits in my house for weeks. She used to whisper in his ear, put a baby in my tummy. Play with my kids and say i want baby's and to settle down with a man. It was her ambition

If she's Czech, the Czech Republic are joining the EU next year, so presumably she will be able to come and live in UK as an EU resident without a visa anyway.

Am v cynical about Eastern European women who do this sort of thing - I lived there too long!
