Just wandered if anyone else out there is going through it.

My Dh and I are in the process of the home-study at the moment, we have a ds of our own aged 6, and hoping to adopt a child 2-4 yrs.

I dont April74 but if no Mumsnetter comes to your aid I do know three couples who have adopted who might be willing to talk with you if you'd like.

april74, I haven't but a friend of mine did last year, all went well they have a lovely little boy of 6yrs who they have adopted. It was a long process though and lots of visits by social services, etc. larsxx

wishing you all the best, we have adopted twice and now the worst of it is over, all the interviews , the visits , the stress, it is so worthwhile, we have ds aged 11 from birth , we adopted a boy age 2 several years ago, very sadly he died in a car accident.we then adopted again and have a dd 3 years old. the age gap is very hard but i guess there things for and against all age differences. our ds was 6 years, when ds2 arrived and we had no real problems with the 2 together, looking back we have wonderful memories.
hope all goes well in your future, it really is worth all the worry and sleepless nights.

Maggie how sad but at least he had you for a while.
I'd like to adopt one day when my youngest is at school - I'd like another child but don't want to do the whole baby thing again and there are so many children out there waiting for new families. Good to see there are plenty of people adopting who already have birth children.

We have a mixture of adopted and birth children and found the adoption process to be really a good experience! Absolutely adore all my children, however they got to be with me.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Thanks for your replies.

It is a very hard emotional rollercoaster, I know it will be worth it in the end.
