Does anyone know if DSS would pay housing benefit to my daughter if I rented my house to her?

yes they would, i rented from my parents and got housing benefit. however i did come across some fairly suspicious people in the hb office so make sure you do it properly - get a contract, rent book etc and it may be better to have the hb paid direct to you so they cant accuse her of keeping it. if they think she is keeping the money they will stop paying

Yes I think they will but you have to do it properly.

Thanks for your advice. How do I do it properly? Contract etc.

does she rent atm? if so she probably has a contract you can just photocopy and change the appropriate words, thats what we did! you could try google, there might be examples around.

if they dont give her the full amount she will have to make up the extra and they will ask for proof (receipts or rent book) when she renews her claim.

i would definately get the rent paid direct to you, they cant accuse her of keeping it then. also keep in mind you may get nothing for a few months until they process her claim, it should be back dated then but worth considering if you have a mortgage to pay

Thanks a lot for that. I've managed to find a contract on the net. She isn't renting at the moment. I bought a house with my partner a couple of years ago. Her and her partner were supposed to buy my house off me - relationship failed. She's still in my house and it's crippling me financially keeping it. I didn't think family could rent from family.

get the forms filled in asap! the only problem can be if its too big for her and they wont give you the whole amount. but its a lot better than nothing! if you call your local hb office they should tell you (or her) what she is entitled to
