always butter both sides as the butter is there for a purpose, ie to form a barrier between the filling and the bread to stop the bread going soggy .

I thought butter was there to..erm, dunno make the snadwich squisher and nicer tasting.

If for me or the kids I butter both slices - if for DP only 1 side as he always has Mayo on the other slice and I think it pointless tobutter it and then slathr mayo all over it!!

I never butter bacon sarnies though just let the yummy grease oooozzzzeeeee through the bread!! YUMMY!!!
