Why does the post office deliver letters at about lunchtime on a working day....

... so that if I finish work at lunchtime that day (DD playgroup day) the post can't be dealt with until the next day, but on a Saturday morning when for once I might be able to get an extra half hour sleep, the postman knocks at 7.00AM on the dot?

Aaraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

How bloody ANNOYING.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 01/04/2006 11:01

I get mine at 10.30am on the dot each day which isnt so bad. Mum gets hers at 1pm, which she finds annoying. 7AM on a saturday? Oh dear!

Sod's Law, innit?

Mine comes any time between 11 and 4 - it made me laugh (ironically) when I had a letter saying I would no longer get a second post. Never have - and have lived here 5 years.

I was chatting to our postman one day and he said a lot of businesses now send someone to the depot first thing in the morning to collect the post - because it is delivered too late for them to deal with it the same day otherwise. He agreed it's appalling - but added that the round he does now used to be divided between three posties - and he now does the whole thing on his own.

And Royal Mail parcels always, always, always come at 5 to 3. Precisely the time when I am standing in the playground waiting for ds1 to come out of school Angry

Hulababy · 01/04/2006 11:09

Our post is rarely here before 12:30/1pm most days. Weekends it is about 10 o'clock.

cece · 01/04/2006 11:18

What annoys me more is that most post boxes only get collected from once a day. Usually at about 5-6.30 pm. So if something is first class does it really get there the next day if it isn't collected till late afternoon????

Has anyone esle noticed this?

Hulababy · 01/04/2006 11:22

First class no longer means next day delivery though. You have to pay a fair bit extra to have that guaranteed.

waterfalls · 01/04/2006 11:24

Our comes at 2.00pm every weekday, but addly before 9.00am on a Saturday.

BettySpaghetti · 01/04/2006 11:32

No pattern to ours at all, totally random -think it gets delivered whenever they feel like it.

I've also noticed that if we don't have any post one day we have loads the next so some days they're obviously not delivering at all (or only to some houses or something)

babyonboard · 01/04/2006 11:38

we never get mail on a saturday or wednesday..and quite often get royal.mail parcels delivered by a young boy who looks 11. even on school days. very odd

my dads birthday present took a month and a half to go from london to sheffield last year. lol

Our post is all over the place too. The last 2 weeks, it's been between 12 and 1pm. And like someone else said, Saturdays post seems to be delivered really early. Parcels get delivered just after 7am. It never seems to be the same postman from one week to the next either.
The thing that I find funny is that we live 10 minutes walk from the main sorting office and even living that close, we've never had a reliable service.
