DH is craving some outdoor time, being a country boy and all...so I was thinking about Epping Forest at half term (thought my walking will be better there and we're near Holland Park for the Central Line).

So which station is closest to the Forest...Epping, Theydon Bois etc? What is there 'to do', can we hire a horse for DD1 to try, anyone know how to find out about that? Are the paths ok for pushing a pushchair on etc?

TIA!

Our garden used to back onto Epping Forest but have never been to most of it without a car as I found things really spread out. there is a boating lake at the Leytonstone end and heaps of good walking tracks further up. There is also a visitors centre, am now in NZ and my book is shamefully still on a box 1 year later but you might be able to get their number from directory enquiries.
Enjoy yourselves

I also used to live near Epping Forest although now in NW. It is great for walks etc and there are some paths suitable for a buggy. The contact details for further information (maps, walks etc) is:

Epping Forest Centre
High Beach
Loughton
Essex
IG10 4AF
Telephone 020 8508 0028

There is a riding school in Chingford but I don't have the details although the information centre will help. One place we loved was Connaught Water which is a lake with lots of ducks etc and which would be fantastic at half-term with the ducklings. You can walk there as well from Chingford Station. There are lots of walks near there so it could make for a good day out.

A word of caution though - Can you plan it so you are not the only adult? Parts of the forest are really isolated and it is better to be safe.
