Where is the first place to go to get a diagnosis for this?Is it the school or GP?My ds is 11 and v intelligent but has been constantly told off at school since day one about memory and organisation. His handwriting is very childish and so is his drawing and he still eats messily has trouble getting dressed and shoe lacs etc.I still wash his hair and he was very slow at bike riding and is not great with scissors.I was looking through his french book as he said the teacher hates him and there are certainly some sarcastic remarks about presentation etc which I don't think he deserved. He really needs some help with this but I don't know where to start!

Either the school SENCO, or particuarly if you feel they may be dismissive, the gp can refer you to a paediatrician for an assessment. The trouble is that it is fairly common, up to 1:20 so at least one child in each classroom, and can manifest itself in fairly subtle ways that it is easily overlooked. Unfortunately it doesn't get a high priority so you may have to wait if you do get referred for Occupational Therapy so it might be worth seeing if the school can offer any speciffc assistance anyway in the meantime.

Thanks I am feeling awful as he is forever getting told off for his organisation and presentation and he really doesn't see the problem.I really want to get some help now esp with things like writing and tying laces scissors etc as when I try to help he sees it as nagging which I know I do at times.I think I will start at the school xx
