Do you leave the oven on while you're out?

I don't usually, but I have a casserole in the oven, and I need to go out. Ds has to go to karate, but the other boy who goes with him is ill, so I have to take ds (supposed to be other parents' turn).

My cooker is very new (january) and has a timer that turns the oven off. I will be gone for an hour and a half at the most. If I turned it off while we were out, it would take to long by the time we got back.

Verdict please!

i always use the timer and leave on with casseroles

I would be happy to leave my oven on, as long as I was going to be back before the food was done. I wouldn't trust the timer to switch it off (only because I don't know how my timer works!)

I don't leave ovens on, never have done. Not really sure why, cos I'll leave anything else on.

i leave our electric oven on. but not gas hob.

Wallace · 28/03/2006 16:16

Yes is electric. I use my timer a lot while I'm in, so I know it works. And even if it didn#t turn it off, we should be back not long after it would be done.

I think I will leave it on, but my mum's voice is in my head going "Never leave the oven on when you go out" Grin

Just do it! I use my oven timer all the time.

Left mine on yesterday at a low temp for about 3 hours - cooking beef in beer and braised red cabbage.

Wallace · 28/03/2006 16:21

Thank you :)

I will leave it on, but if my house has burnt down when i get back I will blame you lot Wink

I did this once to go for quick shop ten mins away and was nearly crying with worry by the time I got back - so no! Grin

I leave mine on if doing a casserole, etc., to get DD from school (about 10-15 mins).

Rhubarb · 28/03/2006 16:48

I used to all the time. I'd put a chicken in to slow roast, then go out for a couple of hours! Blush

Feistybird · 28/03/2006 16:48

almost every Sunday with a roast in it.

auntyquated · 28/03/2006 16:52

i always do this, never give it a second thoufght.
we have a very sensitive fuse box thingy - the slightest problem and it trips out, or whatever it's called!

Rhubarb · 28/03/2006 16:54

Mine was a gas oven!

Wallace · 28/03/2006 19:18
