Why do I care what other people think?

Well, MIL/SIL really. MIL is here and the whole time I can see her thinking 'eh?' - things I've said that have caused a raised eyebrow are:

I don't let the boys have fruit shoots (would if it was a party, wouldn't make a scene, but wouldn't buy them for home and wouldn't choose it if out)

I don't let the boys eat MacDonalds (again, I think if it was a party I wouldn't stop them going but it's not something we eat and if we were out and hungry it wouldn't be our choice)

I don't iron cot sheets, vests, pyjamas or towels

I wouldn't let ds1 put jelly tots in his lunchbox today (get this - she said to me 'I asked him if he wanted raisins but he chose jelly tots' Shock Right, so you just put them in?? WTF?!)

I am by no means a lentil weaving hippy (or whatever you call it) but I sound like a right old bag when my MIL is here - SIL lets niece eat all sorts of crap I think. I don't give in but I feel like a freak!!

GDG, you are making the right choices and I would second ALL you are doing, so do stick to your guns.

My MIL and SIL are exactly the same so you are not alone. Haven't cracked it myself so can't give you magic advice, but I think the only way is to be upfront about your views - after all they feel free enough to let you know what they think!

Much sympathy from me.

I actually told MIL today that Fruit Shoots have them bouncing off the walls - tis not true but tis a good excuse adn I'm sticking to it.
