HELP washing machine emergency - door won't open

Hope you don't mind a daft sounding thread but really need help, don't want to phone my letting agents over something so small.

My ds (aged 2.5) put one item in and turned the machine on last night, I have drained and spun it repeatedly but the door will not open. Have also tried turning it off at the mains, still no action. There doesn't seem to be any water in the barrel so not sure what's up.

Any ideas? Tricks? Something obvious I'm missing?

Try googling the make/model.

TheBlonde · 27/03/2006 13:54

Lots of them have a 2 min delay before the door will open - are you waiting for this?

cupcakes · 27/03/2006 13:55

Maybe it doesn't recognise that the programme has finished. Perhaps you could start it on a full programme (the shortest, lowest water one you can find) and see if that clears it.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 27/03/2006 13:57

if you take the top off the machine
you may find a catch to release the door
it is usually in the top corner

Tamz77 · 27/03/2006 14:00

I have waited for the 2 min delay - waited a lot longer - and done a full programme.

Taking the top off sounds promising...but how the heck do I do it? Will have a look...

Thanks for replies more ideas most welcome!

there might be a couple of screws on he back of the top
unscrew them and have a look

if it is under guarrantee still dont as this can invalidate it
call them out to get it fixed

Tamz77 · 27/03/2006 14:04

Thanks...which corner is the top corner? Do you mean at the back? And what does the catch look like?

Please make sure you have unplugged the machine from the mains before you do any thing, my dh had a nasty accident with a washer. I would call someone out to look at it.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 27/03/2006 14:08

like heavensis says
make sure it is unplugged first
catch should be in the front on either of top corners
depends on the make of the machine

Tamz77 · 27/03/2006 14:08

It is disconnected...can't see anything that looks obviously like a door catch though...

it is usually a little spring in the corner
or by the door
