Can you just take it to any jewellers or does it have to be a specific place? Also do they charge to do it?

Most jewellers will do valuations but, yes, they do charge for it and its not cheap! If you want to do it properly, you can find a jewellers who do a 'Guild Pro valuation'. This is more expensive but the details of the jewellery is stored on a database which is linked to the police and if anything is stolen, it makes it much easier to trace through the e-register Police recovery service. The jewellers take photos of the jewellery also and you are given a booklet detailing everything.

Hope this helps!

Thank you - that's a big help! Think we'll leave it for a while - it's for a bracelet and ring set that was given to dd, bought in Hong Kong/Singapore about 25 years ago so would maybe be charged more for bringing in something awkward!!!
