water meters - how much do you use?

dh and I have been looking at our water bill - it says that in 6 months we have used 265 cubic metres - which is equivalent to 1500 litres a day. We have serious doubts that we could possibly be using this much - we;ve checked out how much the washing machine and dishwasher use - if we ran both twice a day that would be about 200 litres - how on earth could we be using 1300 litres on everything else? Was wondering if anyone knew what they used.

I've looked at our water bill for the beginning of last year, and we apparently used 74 cubic metres in 6 months.

We are a family of five (dds are teens), and I work from home full-time as a childminder, so lots of toilet-flushing/hand-washing going on! We have a dishwasher (once a day), and a washing machine (lots and lots of washing at the weekend). We all have showers, not necessarily daily (we're a mucky lot); bath not used much.

Dh was impressed with how clean you all must be!!

It does sound a lot - you may have a leak somewhere, or leave the taps running a lot (I remember our children used to do this). Do you use a hose etc? Also check if either/both of the meter readings are estimates.

I've repeatedly heard that the average household uses about 150 litres/day per person, so unless you have 10 people in the house, that's a lot. Are you sure you worked it out correctly?
We just used 32 m^3 in last 6 months, we think that's 45 litres/person/day (but we are ecofreaks...)
