Any ideas anyone? My HP Photosmart 1000 printer(circa 3 yrs old) has started displaying the following 'error' message and won't print:

Use appropriate HP cartridge
Colour cartridge not compatible

I am mystified because it is an approp. HP cartridge, and it has been in the printer for about 2 months and working fine until recently...

Can anyone help

Thanks......

bloody things!
Have you tried taking the cartridge out and rebooting? Sounds like the printer software isn't picking it up properly
Or you could kick it

Have you checked the expiry dates on the cartridge - they do expire and if the cartridge has dried up it may not be picking it up.

Thanks guys

I've done the rebooting thing - alas to no avail. Have also had a look at the cartridge and can't see an expiry date on it although there was a serial number type thingy saying 20040404 - perhaps that means 4th April 2004?....

Anyway, I guess I'll buy a new cartridge and see if that helps.

Thanks for the advice

I've had something like this with a PC World version of an HP cartridge. They simply replaced it and I've never used a non-HP cartridge again. I think my printer kept telling me the cartridge wasn't compatible.
