Kidney infection? Anyone had one

I have had this horrible virus this week been feeling very exhausted and crap. For a couple of days I have had a fairly non specific ache below my ribs on the left hand side, not agony at all but uncomfortable and feels horrible to lie on that side. Last night/this morning it seems to have moved to the back, low down. I can still feel it at the front. I still feel pretty lousy but not really ill IYKWIM. Have also started feeling a bit sick. I have no pain when I urinate and I don't seem to be doing it more often than usual.

Do you think this could be a kidney infection?

yes it could be. even though you have no pain when going to the loo. it could also be kidney stones.

have you been taking inbuprofen? antibiotics?

have you made an appt with your gp? you need to give him a urine sample and he should take bloods

sorry meant to say brufen and antibiotics can cause kidney pain if you have been taking them for something else

Yup, had two one after the other about 5yrs ago. I thought it was back ache for a couple of weeks till it got worse and I went to the docs. You have my sympathies, it hurts like hell.

Yes I had one and I was quite poorly with it. I had bad cystitis which cleared up and then a few days later I started with this lower back pain (this was all within weeks of returning from my honeymoon - cliche or what?) which I put down to the new pillows we had received as a wedding present. Anyway the back pain continued and one day at work I started with a fever and felt really awful. Then I was in bed for a week (went to doctor for anti-bs) and I have never had a fever like that - cold and sweating, all my pjs and the new bedding and old bedding soaked in sweat. I ran out of nightwear and ended up wearing DH's cycling trousers and t-shirt and this was in June. But had no pain when passing urine - the UTI had cleared up or moved up my system by this point.

Just got back from the doc and yes it is a kidney infection - am on antibiotics and under strict instructions to drink lots of water.

yaroo .. I had one .. they took a urine sample and sent it away to check the antibiotics were effective against it

lots of water but also 7oz cranberry juice a day is supposed to help ..

poor you .. you have my sympathy

I found a heat pad on my back helped ease it a little

I used to get newly wed DH to leave me with a huge pitcher of water by the bed before he went to work.
