I'm pretty new to this and chose my user name before I realised everyone had such interesting names on here. I was just wondering if people would like to share the story behind their name......

JustSpiro · 01/10/2012 07:57

Justspiro - I'm reminded of 'justcallmedog' who got very annoyed when people still couldn't get it right.

Well I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but hopefully being on this thread might minimise it. Anyway 'Just' is better than 'Dum' Grin!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 01/10/2012 10:41

Welcome Jo, maybe we can help you come up with another nickname?

Empress of the Seven Oceans is my favourite book and I think it works nicely as a nickname, easy to shorten and also easy to vary for seasonal namechanges / if I feel like it, but still recognisable.

ScarlettCrossbones · 01/10/2012 10:47

It was my DS trying to say "skull and crossbones" when he was about 3. Thought "ScarlettCrossbones" was much nicer!

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 01/10/2012 10:54

Fir years I had a name based on my rl petname. But after stropping and deleting my account I chose this because I think its one of the best song lines, a mantra I used to live by, before I became dull.

LauraShigihara · 01/10/2012 11:05

She is the singer/songwriter of the theme tune to Plants vs Zombies, which was my children's and my obsession at the time that I registered.

When I heard that song, I knew that one of them or me had finished the game again and the words always made me laff.

OhChristFENTON · 01/10/2012 11:11

Mine was of course in honour of . I laughed and laughed, and still do, and I first came across the clip right here on MN.

Good old MN, good old Fenton.

SummerRain · 01/10/2012 11:20

OCF... that's hilarious Grin

I wonder does that poor man know he and his dog are internet celebrities?

MotherOfNations · 01/10/2012 11:28

I've got 4 kids by 3 different dads. Blush 2 have a Scottish father,1 has an Iraqi Kurdish father and the youngest father is Moroccan. I realise this makes me sound Luke a complete slapper but I've just been unlucky in love. I'm with a lovely man now though and I know this time it's going to last.

Signet2012 · 01/10/2012 11:29

We where trying to get pregnant when I first came on mn. Decided it would happen in 2012. Due to my surname baby would be a cygnet, mixed with partners nickname for spelling Grin

ChinUpChestOut · 01/10/2012 11:44

I chose this name as a reminder to do it every day......

(We have our own business which still isn't going according to plan, we have significant negative equity in our house that prevents us from selling it, we've used all our savings to live on while we get the business established and now we're at crunch time. It's either going to work in the next three months or we'll be bankrupt).

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 01/10/2012 11:51

Good luck, ChinUp.

MamaGeekChic · 01/10/2012 11:53

I'm a mother to 17mo DD, I work in the IT industry, I love all things style and beauty related.

nipersvest · 01/10/2012 11:53

mine is a recent name change. many years ago, when i first joined mn, it was me who posted a link to another forum, who were discussing mn in terms of it being a vipers nest. nipersvest is a play on that. i used it briefly ages ago but am now using it permanently.

MrsAceRimmer · 01/10/2012 12:16

Have name changed to this for the Red Dwarf new series. I can only dream that he'll be mine Blush
My nn before was IsSamNormansDad, a result of DS watching far too much Fireman Sam while I was pregnant with DD, and lets face it, we all wonder Grin

EnglishGirlApproximately · 01/10/2012 12:44

I'm named after one of my favourite songs by my favourite singer. It tells the story of him being in love with an English songwriter who broke his heart just when he was about to tell her he loves her. If Ds had been dd she would have been named after the English songwriter. Ds is named in one of his other songs. I am a huge obsessed stalker fan Grin

nananaps · 01/10/2012 12:50

im up the duff and need lots of nananaps of an afternoon at the mo.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 01/10/2012 12:58

Nananaps, are yoiiu my sis? That's a term she uses!

greenandcabbagelooking · 01/10/2012 13:00

I contributed "I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking" to a thread about old saying jut after joining, when I had a very boring name. I thought it had good nickname potential, so with a bit of altering it became my name.

MerlinScot · 01/10/2012 13:08

Merlin has been my nick offline for ages too, it was given to me by an American online friend I met years ago. She said I was better than a magician, so she said "you're better than Merlin!" and so it stuck with me. Scot is referring to Scotland, where I live. It came out only because Merlin was a nick already taken everywhere!!

DowntonOut · 01/10/2012 13:19

Felt I was too prolific on here and had shared to much personal stuff under my original name no name-changes. Had Downton on my mind and the name is a word play on Down and Out (was feeling a bit miserable at the time).

I have since discovered DowntonTrout - Our NCs were around a similar time from what I can gather, but are not related. When I can think of something, I might NC again.

JoMumof3 · 01/10/2012 14:12

Wow, thank you everyone for replying. I couldn't believe it when I logged back on. I never thought about the whole not wanting people to know who you are issue, hopefully I'm never going to be so controversial on here that I'll need to hide! I like the idea of having 2 usernames and switching between them though!

I think I am going to have to change my user name to something more exciting. I'm going to become LittleRaindrop I think, because in March I'm having a my first ever picture book published which is called The Little Raindrop (I'm sure you'll all hear more about it nearer the time Smile)

OP posts:
aufaniae · 01/10/2012 14:19

Welcome, LittleRaindrop - lovely name :)

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 01/10/2012 14:24

That's lovely, just to warn you, mnhq don't allow promotion or advertising onboard, unless yoiu pay the fee.

ShesADreamer · 01/10/2012 14:27

My first retired racing greyhound's registered racing name.

smoothieooo · 01/10/2012 14:29

Many years ago when I was working in meedja, I was having a discussion with some colleagues about being smart - apparently the more intelligent you are, the more ridged and pitted your brain is. The accusation levelled at me was that I was such a dumb-ass, that my brain was as smooth as an egg. Hmm

Years (and career change) later, I'm still called by my MN name by some people...
