How much trouble did your child have teething??

My mother in law has turned our dd's teething into such a huge drama.
Just wanted to know if any of your children had any problems. I don't think it's been too bad but MIL (Queen of melodrama) won't change the record, so I'm interested to know of your experiences.

DD1, not much. Till now. She's cutting her two-year-molars - well, the last one - and the poor soul is quite grisly when the pains get her down. Nurofen takes it all away, tho!

dd - cried (screamed) for 3 hours exactly for each tooth

ds - hardly noticed him doing it... would occasionally notice a new tooth had appeared...

What has your MIL done????

hunkermunker · 19/03/2006 17:36

Loads. DS1 had sky-high temps, burning hot cheeks and bleeding gums with every tooth.

MIL has not done anything major-is just generally an incredibly IRRITATING person. Loves going on about how she never let her baby cry the way we do with ours and how mcuh our dd has "suffered" with her teething.

We have nothing to do with her so it's even more irritating when someone who knows nothing about my dd says the same thing everytime time we talk on the phone or (unfortunately) meet.

My dd has kept us up all night on 2 occassions and she is grisly through the day sometimes. My MIL sees her chewing on her finger and says she's "suffering", even though my dd's not crying!!!

By the sounds of it my dd's not had it half as bad as some of you!!!

ds has had pain with every one of his teeth! had to use nurofen and medised a lot Sad. afraid you just have to keep reminding yourself that it doesn't last forever!
i remember being cheered up once reading a teething thread on mumsnet by a mum saying "such were the stress levels in our house due to teething that she nearly knawed off my own limbs and the dog developed mange! " it made me laugh each time i was going slightly demented with ds and his teething trouble Grin

lol alibo Grin

DD didn't seem to get much pain although she came out in the most horrendous sores on her bum so I knew when she was cutting a new tooth.

handlemecarefully · 28/03/2006 22:57

We didn't get sleepless nights, much evidence of pain etc - but like Nbg's dd, horrible, sore, weeping nappy rash which was definitely teething related. Also not interested in food.

nurofen and medised, red cheeks, drooling, grislyness, night waking.
from 3 months till mothers day when the first 2 little blighters finally appeared!!!

Kidstrack2 · 28/03/2006 23:01

ds drooled from about 8weeks and his teeth didn't appear till 8m, no problems whatsoever, dd drooled from about 3m and her teeth appeared at 7m again we had only one night missed sleep because she had sore bum and her cheeks burned up! my MIL actually said to me to give them Calpol before they went to bed to make them sleep and be pain free during the night, and i told her politely where to go!

pebblemum · 28/03/2006 23:25

Both my boys had no problems. They dribbled a bit but they never cried in pain or had any other sympton of teething. I guess I was lucky.
