how neurotic are you about going away (on holiday or just away for a short break) ? I feel I'm neurotic about the whole thing - do you leave lights on at home/ get neighbours to come in ? I love going away ,but every time I get into a flap about leaving everything safe & secure - help !

We always use timers for the lamps. That way the lights all go on and off at different times. You can put the radio on a timer too. A talk-show station is best because it sounds as though people are talking in the house. Not too loud though!

I would then be worried about leaving electrical items plugged in, incase there was a electrical fault which sparked into a fire!!- I have trouble each time I leave the house, double and triple checking that everythings off and taps aren't left on. Ok, I sound every so slighlty paranoid, honestly I'm not !

aggh pinkfluff ! I do use timers, but now I'll fret about that !!!!

Pinkfluff I guess that you leave your freezer plugged in 24/7?

RoscoeReindeer · 23/12/2003 18:19

I am truly paranoid about these things. The Monty Python song "I'm So Worried" was probably written about me.

pinkfluff · 23/12/2003 18:26

rudolpiota - yes I leave the freezer on , but everything else that can be unplugged, gets unplugged, and I still worry!! can't really do anything about the freezer though.

i use timers...about 4 of them dotted around the house
and i do the radio tihng.....
that always makes me laugh however...years ago, my nan who died about 10 years ago, came to our house every sunday for tea - my dad is a paranoid one for leaving the lights on to look like you are in
anyway
he discovered the 'leave your radio on' trick so told my nan to do it
brought her back home in the evening - radio was hardly audible.....nan didnt want to disturb the neighbours....!!!
dont think she quite got the idea somehow!!!
