Just working - clicked on something accidentally and now the type is coming out red and underlined instead of standard black. If I go to font, it just shows arial, automatic etc so how do I get rid of the red??

try ctrl shift n - for normal text

has all the text gone red or just a bit - if just a bit highlight go to where it said 'automatic' and choose black

GDG · 17/03/2006 20:37

first suggestion didn't work

it's just everyhing I know type - all previous stuff is still in the normal black I know I hit something accidentally as I was moving the cursor but don't know what it is!

Even if I choose black it stays red - help!

you must have changed the style - your favourite word!

put you cursor over a character and see what style is showing

ScummyMummy · 17/03/2006 20:38

Highlight your text and click the U button for the underline to go. Click the font colour button to return to black text.

JoolsToo · 17/03/2006 20:39

find what style the correct text is in

sack it - email the document to me!

your missing American Idol they're doing Stevie Wonder

jabberwocky · 17/03/2006 20:39

You may have gone into the proofreading mode. My computer only has WordPerfect at work so I can't walk you through, but look under tools and see if there is something like that.

GDG · 17/03/2006 20:39

no, style is the same onthe black and the red
that doesn't work sm
what have I done?

Odd... Agree with Jools- email to her!

Marina · 17/03/2006 20:40

OK could you have clicked on "track changes" do you think? That's my only suggestion...given that anything new you type comes out like this whereas text already in the document stays black.

jabberwocky · 17/03/2006 20:41

that's what I was thinking marina - track changes! Could not remember what it was called.

Marina · 17/03/2006 20:42

Not dissimilar to what jabberwocky says really. I don't have the same version of Word here as at work and don't tend to use "track changes" or "final mark-up" but have seen the havoc it can cause when people inadvertently leave it on in a shared document!

Marina · 17/03/2006 20:42

x-posted ma'am!

Freddiecat · 17/03/2006 20:44

GDG step-by-step

  1. right click on the blue area next to where it says help and ensure that the word "Formatting" is ticked. This means you are displaying the formatting tool bar.
  1. Highlight the text and right click. Select "Font" from the drop down menu.
  1. Check the options shown. "Font Style" in the middle should be "regular". "Font Colour" - if it's red change to automatic. If it's "Automatic" come back and let us know!
NoPearls · 17/03/2006 20:49

I think it's track changes too. You might have an extra toolbar floating around somewhere. If not, click on View, Toolbars then Reviewing to get the toolbar with the buttons you need on screen.

There's a button towards the end of the toolbar called Track Changes - click that and it will stop it happening for the rest of the document.

To get rid of the red underlined text, find the button marked Accept Change, click on the arrow to the right of it then Accept All Changes and you should be back to normal.

Marina · 17/03/2006 20:50

NoPearls has it!

JoolsToo · 17/03/2006 20:52

you are right girls - track changes was on - I've fixed it for her Grin

thanks for your input!

JoolsToo · 17/03/2006 20:59

how do you get rid of the line in the margin? I thought it would disappear when I turned track changes off?

jabberwocky · 17/03/2006 21:10

The line I think is where it will accept the changes or not. Try right clicking right on the line.

NoPearls · 17/03/2006 21:18

Have you clicked the Accept Changes button?

GDG · 17/03/2006 23:02

Wow, you are all superstars! Thanks so much for your help Smile
