In our house, we don't use Easter as a remembrance of jesus crucifiction. we aren't v religious (thats not to say we don't believe, we r just confusedWink)nor do we recognise Easter as a pagan festival.

I loathe the easter bunny idea, sorry to everyone who does this but its just not me,besides we have an indoor rabbit and it might confuse my eldest (nearly 3)

so, what do u do at easter? i think its unfair not to do anything and i don't want to put the focus on the chocolate although, of course they will have an egg each.

nothing! I don't see how you can do anything else if you aren't christian. Mine might get an egg but that will be it, def no easter bunny!

nailpolish · 17/03/2006 14:02

we give eggs, and tell the children its a celebration of spring and new life

Pruni · 17/03/2006 14:04

We don't do anything.
I quite like the fertility aspect of it - I suppose it is broadly pagan but it's very wholesome as well. Grin
But apart from eating chocolate, what would you do if not religious and going to church? I never found it unfair that we did...nothing special, it was just a holiday. With chocolate.

You could do egg decorating (of hard boiled eggs) or egg rolling or both!
Simple pleasures.... Smile

easter holidays are whatever you make it. frankly i cant think of a worse way to spend a holiday that going to church

we like the idea of spring and easter chicks and lambs, the egg is a symbol of spring and new life

Tinker · 17/03/2006 14:11

Don't do anything. Give eggs and eat them. What more is there to do?

MerlinsBeard · 17/03/2006 14:15

so when is it officially spring? or has that passed already in a blur of snow?Wink

How about an easter tree? Its an idea I saw in Holland a few years ago and we now do (though we go to church etc too) - get a branch of a tree or a few twigs, preferably with catkins growing on them (can buy from some florists, or pick something from the garden). PUt in a pot/vase, and decorate with little Easter decorations - you can get little hanging eggs, chicks, etc, or I've got some little birds made of feathers (got from M&S a few years ago). YOu could make your own decorations from paper and paint them.

i love that idea Miranda - we are not religious but Easter to me is about the spring coming, rebirth, new life after a dark winter etc.
