Just been to pick ds1 up from school(he's 6)only to be met by his teacher with ds's underpants in a plastic bag.
Apparently he had asked to go to the loo and her'policy' is to say no, and if they really want to go they will ask again! of course dh,couldn't hold on and wet himself! Is it just me or is this f outrageous!!!!!??????
To add insult to injury, as there were no school trousers for him to borrow while his dried,he had to wear his p.e shorts and everyone laughed at him.Sad
I am really upset and angry about this.Could she not have phoned me to go and pick him up or at least take him a pair of trousers in?
When push comes to shove, could she have not let him go to the toilet when he asked?

the poor miteSad

she sounds a spiteful bitchAngry

mummygow · 16/03/2006 16:13

what kind of policy is that - and if it is just "her" policy, what is the schools opinion on this - poor wee soul!!

tinyFox · 16/03/2006 16:13

What did you say to his teacher?? i would have had a right go at her!

MerlinsBeard · 16/03/2006 16:13

his teachers policy is to say no to children who want to go to the toilet???? wtf???????

spacecadet · 16/03/2006 16:16

i have a real problem with schools not letting young children go to the loo, ive complained to my local primary school on several occassions because they have a policy of refusing to let even reception class children go to the looAngry, they tell me its because it disrupts lessons.
at my elder 2's secondary school they do not under any circumstances let you go to the loo even if desperate and as a result a few weeks ago a boy in ds's year wet himself then was still not allowed to leave the classAngry and had to sit in wet clothes and a puddle till the end of lessons.
ring the school up and speak to the headteacher, i would be furious too.

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 16:17

she said to me, 'we always say no and if they really need to go they will ask again.otherwise they'd all be running to the loo all the time'
I just said' for future reference, if alex needs to go, he needs to go' and she said ' ill keep it in mind and i'm sorry'
didn't know what to say to her....feel like crying now i'm so angry. wondering whether to write a letter...

OP posts:
spacecadet · 16/03/2006 16:18

children should not be denied the chance to go to the loo, i used to work at our primary school and they cant all go at break because they only let them in 2 at a time!

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 16:19

space cadet thats awful. that happened to me when i was about 15 but at least the teacher then let me leave the room.
not letting reception children go is terrible.
how would they like it???AngrySad

spacecadet · 16/03/2006 16:20

a six year old may be too scared to ask again.

TinyGang · 16/03/2006 16:20

ShockA letter for sure. Unbelievable.

Racers · 16/03/2006 16:21

Sounds like a 50's throwback, what a nightmare for him. Sad

spacecadet · 16/03/2006 16:22

i know myself as an adult is bad enough not being able to visit the loo, but children cant hang on and its also not good to hang on unduly, poor little mite. i would write to the school.

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 16:22

he was put on the 'sad sun' in his first week at school(aged 4) for going to loo without asking.and that wasn't even leaving the class to go, it was going on the way back into class, after break. One of his little friends wet herself several times in reception as she said' if i ask to go to the loo, i'll get put on the sad sun'
it's the year 2006 fgs, not victorian times.

Tatties · 16/03/2006 16:23

I would be furious. Poor thing. I think you should write a letter.

mummygow · 16/03/2006 16:23

fgs we dont all need the toilet at the same time and agree that a child maybe scared to ask again!! Where on earth did she get her thinking from!!

spacecadet · 16/03/2006 16:25

blimey-what an awful school, going to the toilet is a basic human rightAngry

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 16:25

i'm actually thinking of going to see the headmistress tomorrow morning after i drop him off.
she couldn't look me in the eye when she was talking to me-she knew she was out of order.

lacrimosa · 16/03/2006 16:27

She is a coplete cow and you should bloody well dress her down for it! [i think] my brother had the same experience and it gave him big problems eg started holding it in all day which made him constipated and had urinary tract infections so let her have a piece of your mind!Angry I hope that your ds is ok and gets over this wellSmile

spacecadet · 16/03/2006 16:28

well i would def take it further.

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 16:35

ok if i go to see the headteacher tomorrow, what should i say?

OP posts:
Miaou · 16/03/2006 16:40

sorry, let me get this straight, if they ask for something and are told no, they are expected to ask again???

what kind of life lesson does that teach them?

in my house if you ask and are told no then that is my final word - asking again is simply not an option (stops all the whingeing Wink) - so where would that policy leave children of parents like me?

and as has already been said, UTI's can result from not going frequently enough - basic human right!

and I haven't even started on the issue of humiliation - god i am fuming Angry

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 16:42

d'y'know? i am so glad it's not just me.

OP posts:
Miaou · 16/03/2006 16:45

it's a good job I don't live round the corner from you alexmum, I'd be bashing on the school door and giving them a piece of my mind!!

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 16:47

it was when he said to me' while i was wearing my shorts, everyone laughed at me', i could have cried.
so what do i say tomorrow?

OP posts:
Racers · 16/03/2006 16:49

well you should maybe start with miaou's point about no meaning no etc.

and ask in what other ways are individual teachers allowed to formulate their own policy
