Feeling guilty for not being in work even though it's not my fault

I feel very unprofessional. I'm an EFL teacher at a school, I have 2 hours to do today, but I'm not in because dd is ill. Trouble is, this is the 4th day off I've had, and I know they can't replace me, so my half of the class won't get lessons today. A week last Monday I was off because I had an accident with my foot and couldn't drive. Now dd is ill. She came into our room tonight, she was burning up and said that she could see blue and green lights everywhere and felt sick. I gave her medicine and put her back to bed, but this morning she still had a slight temperature, said he had a headache and couldn't eat her breakfast. She looks ill too.

I couldn't send her to school. I had a thought of taking her to work with me, but worried in case she was ill there, it would be irresponsible of me. So I phoned in this morning. Trouble is she's perked up a bit now! Still not right, but better than she was!

I just feel so damn guilty about taking yet another day off! We've no-one else to look after the kids (dh is working today! He managed to get himself a bit of work!), so what do others do in this situation? What would you have done?

Actually she's gone worse now. Had to put her to bed, she still has a temp, going hot and cold and feeling uncomfortable, not eaten anything.

Just feel guilty anyway because I always think that people think I'm lying! Maybe it's to do with skivving off school and work all those times, I automatically feel guilty now even when I'm telling the truth!

i would have done the same thing. I only work one day a week and have missed a few days when Linus has been ill.

i do feel bad... but what else can you do?

Aw thanks! I only work 2 days a week so I feel really bad that I've had 4 days off this year!

I am off as well. Only do three days a week and have managed to get in for all three days only a couple of times so far this year. Just seems like there is always one of us ill at the moment. It's ds turn at the moment, has a temperature and is off his food but not really poorly.

Does your workplace say anything? I feel awful when I go back in because they look at me like I've let down the whole school!

They don't say anything outright but will make plenty of barbed comments.
Am lucky at work though that things are really not busy and we can easily cope when someone is off. Makes for a very boring worling day.
