Hello,

Just wondered has anybody had or removed a cement asbestos sheet garage roof. We had an offer accepted on lovely house but survey said detached garage had above roof. Don't know whether to go ahead and not touch it (as it's in good nick and they say disturbing it could disturb the fibres) or try to get it removed and out of my worries. Has anybody had experience of this.

My mum has one which sounds similar. We asked our friend who is a surveyor and were told it is fairly common and wasn't a problem in itself unless you plan to do work there and may disturb it.

We have an old garage, which came up as having asbestos, in our survey. We have left ours as it's in pretty good condition.
If you remove it, probs need some sort planning permission from council ..

if it is in good condition then you would be fine to leave it - if not then you will need to get it inspected and removed by a specialist company which can be very costly.

its actually best to leave it alone if its in good nick, as disturbing it is more hazardous.

in laws garage is the same.. not a prob unless you fiddle with it

Apparently it depends what sort of asbestos it is. If you look up asbestos removal on google it tells you what precautions need to be taken. Some asbestos is not that harmful and can be removed yourself, I think you have to spray it with water and then wrap it all up afterwards and obviously it has to be disposed of carefully.

I've just had some removed from my kitchen and I asked lots of questions as I'm a nosey cow!
