Ebay query

I put an item on ebay to start the auction at £5.00 with a buy it now at £15.00. Dh has gone a bit mad saying I am not asking enough and that I should have put it to start at £10.00 s if there is only one bid it will be a waste at £5.00. I explained that is the risk and that cheaper starting prices attract more buyers but he still says £10.00.

I have just gone in to amend it and I have noticed that there is someone watching the item already although no bids have been made. an I still amend the starting price?

if no bids then yes

SoupDragon · 14/03/2006 13:37

Can't you put a reserve on it instead?

helsi · 14/03/2006 13:39

whenever I try to put reserves on it always says I need a minimum of £50.00 so have never doen it.

don't think you can amend to a higher value though.

have you checked completed listings for the item to see what they are selling for?

if its worth starting at a tenner then you may be better to withdraw auction (only with no bids) and start it again.

it is a minimum of £50 for reserves

what are you sellign, check prev auctions and how much they have gone for then you can get a realistic of what it is worth on ebay. Isn't it better to get £5 for it thatn nothing?

quanglewangle · 14/03/2006 17:23

yes, withdraw it and start again. I did once (I found something was too long to post) and it was easy. Got a few emails asking my why had withdrawn it and I just answered them. Bit of a bugger really, the bidding was going well but wasn't worth exensive courier costs.

quanglewangle · 14/03/2006 17:25

Just to clarify, I already had bids when I withdrew it.

My dh doesnt get ebay either, i start everything at 99p, regardless of what its ha ha meant to be worth.
Have never lost out.
Its cost MORE IN FEES for a higher starting price.
