Anyone got a good easy marinade for steak?

I have 2 organic rump steaks and about 3 hours before I need to cook them. Has anyone got a good marinade recipe? I need something using store cupboard ingredients ideally. TIA for any ideas.

I usually use some oil,soy sauce and mix in some spices (those schwartz ones eg bbq) if in a hurry.

red wine, garlic, worcester sauce, black pepper, tabasco, olive oil or combination of some of those...

why ever do you want to marinade a good rump steak?

But anyway, i guess you could use a variation on Chimichurri - a fabulous Argentinian sauce/marinade that goes with any meat (and the Argentinians really know their meat! )

  • vinegar
  • olive oil (in equal amounts)
  • splash of wine
  • chopped onion
  • garlic
  • herbs: whatever you have, especially parsley, basil and thyme
  • bit of lemon juice
  • salt and pepper
  • little bit of saffron if you have it (soak in the lemon juice for 20 mins or so beforehand)

I haven't put amounts as its a try is and see recipe really, especially as I suspect you won't have all the ingredients. You can use it as a marinade or a sauce on the side.

PS there's a proper recipe for it here but you can't go far wrong!

Oh yes, and you can add tabasco/cayenne too.

Cook them normally, then while hot douse them in a mix of soy sauce, olive oil, finely chopped chili, garlic and ginger if you have it. Leave for a couple of minutes, slice and eat with stirfried greens. Yum.

Thanks you lot. I marinated them in an olive oil/lemon juice/garlic/red wine mix in the end. Also did basil and lime butter, horseradish mash and a salad to go with them.
