..a catalogue of offences against children he was teaching recorder to.
when she was at primary school she had a recorder teacher for private tuition, after a while she gave it up as she didnt like the tutor, then last year, police officers arrived to interview my dd and take a statement, they said they were from the child protection team and an allegation had been made against this teacher.
we never heard anything else, then last night dd and i watched the news in horror as he was sent to prison for a committing sex offences against children for 13 years.
my dd was very shaken up although she said he never did anything.

fastasleep · 11/03/2006 15:28

What a lucky DD... that must be really really disturbing Sad

thank god she had good intuition!

spacecadet · 11/03/2006 15:29

its funny cos she didnt like him from day one, he took over from her old teacher who she had a good rapport with and i just assumed that was the reason.

What an awful 'what if' scenario for her but good for her for saying she just didn't like him at the time. Horrible to think how people choose proffesiions to get close to children.

saadia · 11/03/2006 16:02

ditto fastasleep, just shows that children's feeling and worries should always be taken seriously.

spidermama · 11/03/2006 16:06

Whoa! That's really creepy spacecadet. We had a janitor at our old primary school who was jailed for this sort of offence. It makes you feel sick and sad for the victims doesn't it?

welshboris · 11/03/2006 16:31

Theres another thread about this hun, someone on here was also taught by him and a lucky escape aswell

spacecadet · 11/03/2006 16:33

its very creepy-apparently he had even tried to rape one child in the school staffroomSad

Oh spacecadet, I know just how your dd's feeling Sad

spacecadet · 11/03/2006 16:41

shockedandstunned-i felt physically sick when the news came on last night.
when the police came to interview us last year we couldnt beleive it, but because they wouldnt tell us what was going on, only that there had been an allegation, we just hoped it was ill founded.

shockedandstunned · 11/03/2006 16:46

Exactly - he was always rather Svengali-like with some of the children who he regarded as "especially talented" and would take them for extra tuition. IIRC, they were pretty much always girls Sad.

I just feel like a large chunk of my childhood has been turned on its head.

spacecadet · 11/03/2006 17:06

shockedandstunned-this must be an awful shock for you.
the police only traced me becauseof a letter i wrote him saying how unhappy i was
with his teaching, his methods were diff to the previous teachers and i wasnt happy with them, but when he received the letter i remember he rang me, very upset asking what the prob was and saying dd was v talented and shouldnt give it up.
