Walking gear in seriously big sizes?

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 14:37

About a year ago someone linked to a site that did walking gear, waterproofs and so on in very big sizes - does anyone know which site it was, because I can't remember the name of the company and I can't find the thread.

Or does anyone know where I can get outdoor gear in very large sizes? XXL men's waterproofs don't make allowances for norkage and the zips won't do up!

Lots of grovelling please to anyone who can help Wink

OK, so you're all skinny minnies and not in need of such things ... Wink

What sort of size are you talking about? I can find a couple of sites that do a 20

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 15:25

Sorry, I should have said. I need much bigger than a 20 - I'm looking at 28 - 30.

WWB what are you looking for? I dont know how specialist it needs to be but I bought a lovely outdoor waterproof coat with attached fleece that comes off from simply be. Have also bought some large fleeces in camping/outdoor shops.

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 15:45

Ideally I'd prefer it to be proper outdoor gear, so I've been looking in all the camping and outdoor shops - their ladies OS sizes are only about a 20 - 22 though, and their biggest mens size would be OK if it wasn't for the norkage!

I know there's a mail order place that does them, someone did a link ages ago and I wrote down the website address, but of course can't find it now.

I'll have a look at Simply Be though - at the moment my waterproof isn't, and I keep getting wet, so even if I only get something that will do for now, it will be better than I've got at the moment! Thanks, Nemo.

I know nothing about this company, but they do seem to go up to larger sizes \link{http://oxendalesuk.drct2u.com/productcache/OXO/BO2001/LPG11021283/RT609AV_ORIGPO_0.html\oxendales}

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 16:03

Oooh, thanks Iota ... they seem to have one or two that would do the job.

Smile the power of google and time on my hands - still got 2 x sick kids

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 16:23

Oh no ... no improvement at all?

I'm usually pretty good with Google but didn't turn up anything this time ... must be losing my touch!

Is this the one you were thinking of? \link{http://www.destinationanywear.com/aboutus.asp?tested=y\Destination Anywear}

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 16:44

That's the one!!!

Thanks, Bran Smile

It doesn't look as though it's a great time to buy though, I seem to remember that they had a lot more stock the last time I looked. They do have quite good value jackets though.

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 16:49

I think I'll stick them on my favourites so I don't lose it again! If I can get something that will do for now and then buy something better when they have some more stuff in stock, that would be fine.

Bran you beat me to it!

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 17:02

They don't have much above a 20 at the mo but I'm pretty sure that last time I saw the site they had some much bigger stuff in. Waiting with bated breath for new stock to arrive Wink

Cotton Traders have some larger sizes in the 3-1 jackets. I don't know if these are what your looking for.

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 17:47

Just had a look and the ones I found only seem to go to XL, which I don't think would be big enough. Thank you anyway Smile

weird, that Oxendales site is the same gear as Simply Be. Not seen that before.

Thanks for this thread WWB, I'm also that size and thought I was destined to always get wet!! (Although the Regatta Packaway cagoule thing on the anywear site, is also available in discount villages (Portsmouth and McCarther Glen) outdoor shops up to XXXL - big enough for norkage for about £10). Good Luck

WigWamBam · 13/03/2006 12:22

Thanks ... it's a real pain, isn't it! Obviously big women don't do outdoorsy stuff or exercise ... Wink

We can't get to any of the discount villages, or at least there aren't any around here that I know of. The packamac thing is probably too lightweight for what I'd need though.

Have you thought about searching for US sites and having it shipped over? I'll have a quick google and see what I can find.

WigWamBam · 13/03/2006 13:20

I hadn't actually ... makes sense though, the Americans seem much more geared up towards bigger sizes.

\link{http://walking.about.com/cs/clothing/a/plussize.htm\This} seems promising, it isn't a retailer but it seems to link to them.
