sorry realise this isn't life or death but question for you grammer buffs

Bob's cafe bar (obviously apostrophe in right place). But later on in article 'exclusive to Bob's' Is that right? or should it be 'exclusive to bobs'

Bob's. It's a shortening of the full title 'Bob's Cafe Bar' and is still unchanged in the possessive. 'Bobs' implies that there are two or more Bobs

Janstar · 17/12/2003 13:45

OMG, did I beat Popsycal and co to this one?

katierocket · 17/12/2003 13:49

thank you thank you Janstar.

Also katierocket, it's grammar, not grammer

SenoraPostrophe · 17/12/2003 14:03
Grin
motherinferior · 17/12/2003 14:24

I do like the idea of a caff specially for people named Bob, I have to say.

Bobsmum and Bobsdad could run it.

Festivefly · 17/12/2003 14:26

Mother inferior it's cafe not caff

baublebobsmum · 17/12/2003 14:32

Yus indeedy - all welcome at bobsRus

OK - can I ask this one? I bought a pair of cheapy pyjamas from Asda with a dinosaur print all over them. The motif on the top reads "1...2...3...Dino's"

I've asked around and some people say the apostrophe's ok because it's an abbreviation. I'm sure it's not meant to be an abbreviation and is just plain wrong. Opinions?

codswallop · 17/12/2003 14:33

It is the cafe of Bob

codswallop · 17/12/2003 14:33

just wrong I think

katierocket · 17/12/2003 14:34

www and festivefly. God I have to be sooo careful with typos on this board!

re: Dino's - would have said is technically incorrect.

OP posts:
Festivefly · 17/12/2003 14:35

What should it be ?

motherinferior · 17/12/2003 14:47

I still like caff. (And yes I have an A level in French, o Festive One!)

katierocket · 17/12/2003 14:50

Now I'm getting confused. what should what be festivefly? if you mean the dino's thing, I think it's just a bit rubbish (to be technical about it)

1,2,3 Dino's - Dino's what? numbers?
or is it saying '1, 2, 3 dinosaurs'
can't believe i'm discussing this

OP posts:
katierocket · 17/12/2003 14:51

actually (and now I realise how boring I really am) I think I may have mislead you all with my original post.

The sentence goes on to say
'Exclusive to bob's, special jerk chicken sandwich' - (well that type of thing)

OP posts:
baublebobsmum · 17/12/2003 14:59

Now, now Katierocket - you're in my caff now. Are you saying my son's PJs are rubbish!!!?

(The motif has 3 dinosaurs on it. The phrase 1...2...3...Dino's is next to it, so it's counting the dinosaurs. I just didn't think you used apostrophes for plurals...)

Back to the chicken sandwich....

Festivefly · 17/12/2003 15:02

Sorry don't get the dino thing, but i rely on spell check, so that just shows you the standard of my English.
Mother inferior please except my deepest apologies

katierocket · 17/12/2003 15:03

bbm how insenstive of me - I'm sure they are fine pjs. my DS has half mast pjs at the mo as I'm such a bad mum that I haven't bought him new ones since he's grown - he looks like a little ragamuffin

I think you're right though - if itcounting the dinosaurs there shouldn't be a '
