Is papier mache just pva glue mixed with water?

Trying to find how to make it and coming across all sorts of things!

I thought it was wallpaper paste (mind you, not done papier mache for years!

MrsBadger · 08/03/2006 12:51

seem to remember it being wallpaper / flour-and-water type paste - it's runnier than PVA so you can really soak the newspaper in it.

Wallpaper paste and water. Fab stuff Grin

PVA glue mixed with water (not too much though) makes a great varnish - so if you make your papier mache model and paint it with poster paints, you can varnish it afterwards with watered down PVA. It will prevent paint rubbing off on things and help to increase the rigidity and make it last longer.

(Says the veteran of a papier mache viking longship and rocket big enough to hold four and two people respectively Grin)
