OK - I need to keep on Mumsnet for the next 30 minutes... Have just bid for something on ebay and gone way over my limit (can't say what it is as it's for dp's birthday) - it finishes in 30 minutes and I'm currently the highest bidder but only by £1. I really really really can't afford what I've bid and MUSTN'T put another bid in. If it goes, it goes...

That saves me starting a new thread - was just trying to get into ebay but can't!

Stay away stay away!!

Dottydot · 07/03/2006 20:14

I know - i couldn't get in for ages and then 30 mins before it's due to close I get in to find my highest bid was beaten! Couldn't leave it - now I'm a bit scared I'm actually going to 'win' it...!

Well keep talking to keep your mind off it.

turniphead · 07/03/2006 20:15

I bid on something in the last minute of the auction last night - two snipers beat me by miles - don't sweat it

Dottydot · 07/03/2006 20:16

thanks - 22 minutes to go (OK, OK, I just checked..!). Am really hoping I get outbid now - although dp will love it, and her birthday's just after pay day so I don't care!! Grin

I've done this before. Got a bit carried away in the heat of the moment and over bid drastically!!!!

Luckily, upto now, i've always been outbid, which has always come as a huge relief!!! Hope that happens for you!!Grin

I still can't get in, it's driving me mad! Maybe after this one has finished you'll find it again cheaper?

Dottydot · 07/03/2006 20:18

It's a bit addictive isn't it? I've only just discovered ebay - should probably keep away from it - although I just got ds1 a lovely pink shirt (don't ask) for 99p which he loves, so at least I usually go for bargains!

starlover · 07/03/2006 20:18

what is it?

zephyrcat · 07/03/2006 20:19

I like the word frock too lol reminds me of Scotland!

Boopert · 07/03/2006 20:20

Dh is an ebay addict! Will buy literally ANYthing from there. And my bro is selling a Golf GTi bit by bit on there too....don't ask...

Dottydot · 07/03/2006 20:20

Zephyrcat - I couldn't get in via my usual link - I had to type the full address in again, so you could try that?

Hausfrau - I also love the word frock!! But no, haven't found anything yet. We're currently getting stressed/arguing about invitation designs... I think we've settled on 2 silver rings intertwined (kind of Venn diagram-y) or something - our v. patient friend is making them for us - having just sent us a couple of lovely designs with a heart on dp has decided that's too twee...

(why am I getting married again?!)

OK don't tell dp but it's a signed photo of the 2 actors from Brokeback Mountain. Dp loved the film and has been pining for something from the film ever since - ebay are selling loads of stuff but the prices are bonkers. Can't tell you what I've bid 'cos it's v. silly Blush

zephyrcat · 07/03/2006 20:23

Have just seen the other thread - seems to be a problem all over with getting into ebay!

lol! does it have a coa with it? i've bought something "signed" before and it was just a copy!

zephyrcat · 07/03/2006 20:25

Yes make sure it's got a COA.... although I can't talk, when I first found ebay I got totally addicted to film memorabillia! Blush

Dottydot · 07/03/2006 20:26

Does it have a what???! Don't know - knowing my luck it's bound to be a fake/copy/rubbish thing. I just got carried away... Blush. Oh dear - and now I can't get into ebay (they've probably crashed due to the silliness of my bid) and there's only 3 minutes to go!

OP posts:
starlover · 07/03/2006 20:28

certificate of authenticity

zephyrcat · 07/03/2006 20:28

Certificate of Authentication. Most things will have it but sometimes it's a copy

Dottydot · 07/03/2006 20:31

oh well - I'm completely mortified now - just managed to get back into ebay to check and it actually says it's a copy!!!! Blush Blush Blush No wonder I'm not being outbid - I'm a lunatic for paying that much for a flipping copy!

I'm never going on ebay again, I'm never going on ebay again, I'm never going on ebay again...

(7 minutes to go)

OP posts:
zephyrcat · 07/03/2006 20:32

can you retract your bid? very quickly?? I'm not sure but you might...

vickiyumyum · 07/03/2006 20:32

quickly retract the bid, its not what you thought it was, so the bid was a mistake!

zephyrcat · 07/03/2006 20:33

Mind you if dp will love it that much it won't matter!!
