We had to rehome our jack russell dog a few weeks back, he used to belong to MIL, but we took him in after she could no longer cope with him. He would howl every time we left him, and he was becoming snappy with my kids, so we managed to get him inot the blue cross. Anywaywe knew that it was the best thing to do and I was happy with our decison. BIL and his wife came home from a holiday (they live with MIL) and she told them that we had been waiting a YEAR to get a place at the blue cross (we had been waiting about 3 months), and that I was up all night crying down the phone to her, which was a load of BS. She phoned DH and made sure he was up to date with her lies, but what I don't understand is WHY lie????

human nature, scared of reaction. Probably made it all up on the spur of the moment.

Will it affect you too much? How many acts of pretence are you going to have to go through? If its a lot, i'd perhaps encourage MIL to backtrack. If not, then forget it.

thing is if BIL finds out it was a pack of lies, he will blame me and DH and he can be very nasty. My SIL was driven out of the town by BIL because she dared to tell MIL that he was doing drugs, MIL believed him and now SIL is the black sheep of the family :(
