Is £1200 breathe about the normal rate for a root canal filling and a new crown?

I don't think I've ever paid that much on the NHS - I guess it's private?

Cremolafoam · 18/07/2012 07:41

It's about twice what I paid with my private dentist snowy. Seems a lot but it will depend on the number of X-rays and visits req I expect.

Snowyj · 18/07/2012 16:41

Thanks both of you. It is private, the NHS dentist said that they don't have the tools for the root filling. It's four visits in total, so I do appreciate that it's a lot of skilful work involved, but I'm sure a whole set of dentures would be cheaper...tempting!

Shop around, find a NHS dentist that can do the procedure

AMumInScotland · 18/07/2012 16:48

They can certainly be done on the NHS, so it would be worth trying to find one in your area to get it done cheaper. The price does depend on the type of crown you go for, but it can be a lot less than £1200!

I am getting a root canal done at an endontrist in Edinburgh and it is £691. It is a back tooth and my dentist said she'd have a go but wasn't confident as it was particularly tricky.
I have had a root canal and a crown done on the NHS by my previous dentist on one of my premolars and it was well done and cost me £130 I think. You could always get the root canal done privately and then get the crown done on the NHS.

Confused My NHS has done loads of root canal and crown work on me.

I am also thinking that a full set of dentures would be cheaper. And whiterSad

Up to £2400 now and still not finished :(

germyrabbit · 22/08/2012 16:05

jeez that is a barmy amount of money, my nhs charges are done in scales and i think it was only £240 for the same work.

Haberdashery · 22/08/2012 16:14

It depends where you are. That would be pretty standard in London (or even more) and finding someone to do it on the NHS in my area would be impossible. I know because I've tried.
